Hm... in this image, I suppose it's moving upwards, but it's moving to the left in the larger-scale diagram. Thus, Sirga attacks from the left side in this image because it's moving up in the larger diagram.

Putting the light ships where you did just saved you from a lot of pain, actually. xD What inspired you to deploy them there?
EDIT: Re-flipped the graphic. You were right, handling the battle horizontally would have been far too complicated.

What inspired you to deploy them there? Actually, I've always preferred lighter weapons to heavier ones. I pick Grass type over Fire type, mind over matter, etc. And the possibility of a rear-attack also made me want to put my line ships at the back and leave my light ships at the front. It was also a lot of random guessing  |

There are 300 ships per battalion in the Tarkan system. So if there are 2 LINE battalions, there are a total of 600 ships present. |

Me. Also, can an artillery fire at a group of ships if there are some other ships in the way? The battle is in three-dimensional space, after all...

They can as long as they're above/below the vessels they're firing through in the 2D representation. This would separate them from the rest of the fleet slightly and make them vulnerable to attack. Alternatively, they could advance beyond the line protecting them to fire.

Alright, one problem. The whole Miperian formation is already moving at maximum warp, isn't it? How are the bombers able to fly faster than maximum warp to overtake the Tarkan line?
EDIT: Also, isn't Mkun elsewhere?
EDIT (again): Another note, the small red arrows on my post are meant to indicate what the ships are firing at.
